Scholarship Night -- July 17, 2010

The Greater Hartford Chapter was truly pleased to present college scholarships to 5 very deserving, very new high-school graduates.   The recipients were selected based upon their application submissions, which consisted of an essay describing how ballroom has impacted them personally and academically, their cumulative GPA, their responses to application questions and recommendations from both their ballroom instructors and high school teachers/guidance counselors.

The recipients of the 2010 scholarship program are:

  • Elsi Orejuela* of East Hartford, who will be attending Manchester Community College, majoring in Physiology for Children;

  • John Giannini* of New Britain, who will be attending Manchester Community College, majoring in Psychology in Criminal Justice and Child and Family Services;

  • Joniva Aguirre of East Hartford, who will be attending the University of Connecticut, majoring in Pre-Education with a concentration in English;

  • Lorena Lazo de la Vega of East Hartford, who will be attending Trinity College, majoring in Neuroscience and Mathematics; and,

  • Katharine Grace O'Neil of Burlington, who will be attending Gordon College, majoring in Education.

  *Recipients of the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire scholarships.

Scholarship Committee members included:  Barbara Baran, Michele Evans, Cheryl Racco, Patricia Williams and George Ziminski.

The Chapter wishes our scholarship recipients all the best in their academic, career and dancing endeavors!
