Scholarship Night -- June 20, 2009
The Greater Hartford Chapter was truly pleased to present the very first college scholarships offered by any of the 200 USA Dance chapters to 5 very deserving, very new high-school graduates. The recipients were selected based upon their application submissions, which consisted of an essay describing how ballroom has impacted them personally and academically, their cumulative GPA, their responses to application questions and recommendations from both their ballroom instructors and high school teachers/guidance counselors.
The recipients of the 2009 scholarship program are:
- Kathleen Campbell of Glastonbury, who will be attending Clark University, majoring in pre-law;
- Barbara Kaczmarek of Glastonbury, who will be attending School of the Art Institute of Chicago, majoring in fine arts;
- Rachel Nystrom of East Hartford, who will be attending Mount Ida College, majoring in psychology;
- Amanda Townsend of East Hartford, who will be attending Marist College, majoring in mathematics; and,
- Julia Turner of Milford, who will be attending Providence College, majoring in education.
Scholarship Committee members included: Don Black, Michele Evans, Don Kerski, Gerry Weaver and George Ziminski.
The Chapter wishes our scholarship recipients all the best in their academic, career and dancing endeavors!
